Welcome to Years 3 and 4

Welcome to Years 3 and 4, where we help our children grow in confidence, develop their independence and become enthusiastic, curious learners.

Learning across the phase is exciting, purposeful and designed to build on the strong foundations children have developed during their time in Key Stage 1. Our curriculum topics can be found on our termly overview pages, with each new topic beginning with an exciting hook day to capture children’s interest and enthusiasm for what they are about to learn.

As children move through Years 3 and 4, we support them to become increasingly independent in their learning, encouraging them to ask questions, challenge themselves and develop the confidence and resilience to keep going when learning becomes more challenging.

Supporting Learning at Home

Families can make a real difference by encouraging children to read regularly at home, practise their spellings and develop fluent recall of their times tables.

We love to recognise children’s efforts. Children receive an acorn and raffle ticket each time they read at home. Parents and carers can record this in their child’s reading record or upload a photo or video to Seesaw.

Children can also become one of our Maths Champions, receiving a special pencil as they develop confident recall of their multiplication and division facts and learn to apply these to a range of mathematical problems.

Homework is shared at the beginning of the year, with children encouraged and rewarded for completing activities throughout the year.

PE

Children do not need to bring a separate PE kit to school. On PE days, they can come to school wearing their PE kit. As some lessons take place outdoors, please make sure children have suitable clothing to keep them warm during colder weather.

Above all, we want Years 3 and 4 to be a time when children enjoy the opportunities that Key Stage 2 brings, grow in confidence and independence, celebrate their achievements and feel proud of everything they accomplish. We look forward to sharing another exciting year of learning with them.
