Welcome to EYFS at Forest View. Starting school is an exciting and important step, and our priority is to make sure that every child feels happy, safe and confident as they begin their journey with us. Throughout the year, children learn through a carefully planned combination of purposeful play, exploration and adult-led activities, developing the knowledge, skills and independence they need for the next stage of their education.

Supporting learning at home
There are lots of simple ways that you can support your child’s learning at home. Talking together, sharing experiences, playing games, counting everyday objects and encouraging your child to become increasingly independent all make a real difference. We will keep you informed about what the children are learning in school so that you can talk about this together at home.

Phonics and reading
Developing a love of reading is a particularly important part of Reception. Children are taught phonics regularly in school and will bring home books and activities that help them practise what they have learnt. Reading together frequently, practising sounds and words, and sharing stories for enjoyment are some of the most valuable things you can do to support your child. Please remember that reading to your child is just as important as listening to them read.

PE and developing independence
PE is an important part of our curriculum and children need to bring their PE kit into school so that they can change for their lessons. Learning to dress and undress independently is an important skill in Reception, so practising things such as changing clothes, managing buttons and zips, and putting shoes on independently at home can be really helpful.

Above all, we want children’s first year at Forest View to be a happy, exciting and memorable one. We want every child to develop a love of learning, grow in confidence and independence, make friends and feel proud of everything they achieve. By working closely with you, we can give every child the very best possible start to their time at Forest View.
