Kites

Welcome to Kites Class.  

Our Topic for the Summer Term is ‘Games Wide Open’, throughout this term we will focus on developing our geographical knowledge and understanding and our PE skills. We will be learning about athletics, cricket, rounders and basketball We will be developing our historical knowledge by learning about life in Ancient Greece with a focus on the Ancient Olympics.  During our topic, we will have visitors from Team GB including a Paralympic footballer, Hanna Longden (sprinter) as well as a football freestyler and skateboarding workshop.  

In English, we will be using our sports knowledge and writing skills to write a Sports Manager’s persuasive speech. We will begin the topic with hook day into our book ‘Running on Empty’ and we will end it by writing a range of genres based on the book.  We will also be writing stories from different perspectives. 

In Maths, we will focus on building and strengthening our knowledge of: place value; addition and subtraction; multiplication and division; fractions, decimals and percentages; measures; geometry; statistics and time. 

In Science we will learn about changes in humans as we develop into old age, identifying and naming the main parts of the human circulatory system. We will study the impact of diet, exercise, drugs and lifestyle on the way our bodies function.  

We have another opportunity to develop our cookery skills in Food Technology by creating dishes from Olympic countries. We will also develop our creative skills in Design and Technology by taking part in a KNex challenge.  In Art we are designing and making an Olympic mascot and studying French artists.  In Music, we will be listening to world music and studying famous composers (mainly focussed on France).  

During PSHE we will be learning about Living in the Wider World and the British Values. In our Online Safety lessons, we will learn about our Online Relationships and Reputation as well as our Self-Image and Identity. We will also be learning to read and write simple phases in French in our Modern Foreign Language lessons. 

You will not need to bring your PE kits  to school but you can wear your PE kits  on  our PE days. Some PE will be outside so please make sure you’ll be warm enough. 

  Homework will be set at the start of the term on Seesaw. Children can upload their work to Seesaw at the end of the term or as they finish each task. If you would prefer a paper copy of the homework please contact the school to arrange this.  Children will received rewards for completed homework tasks. 

You can support us by listening to your child read regularly, helping them learn their times tables and practice their spelling. Children will receive a reward and raffle ticket each time they read at home (you can sign their link book or they could upload a photo/video to Seesaw). Children can become ‘Maths Champions’ and receive a special pencil when they know all the times tables and division facts up to 12x12 and are able to use them to solve a variety of problems. Children will also receive rewards for doing well in their spellings.
