Hawks

Welcome to Hawks class with Mr Moore.

Our Topic for the Summer Term is ‘Games Wide Open’, throughout this term we will focus on developing our geographical knowledge and understanding and our PE skills. We will be learning about the world’s countries using maps to focus on Europe (Paris) and South America.  We will be developing our historical knowledge by learning about life in Ancient Greece with a focus on the Ancient Olympics. During our topic, we will have we will have visitors from Team GB including a Paralympic footballer, Hanna Longden (sprinter) as well as a football freestyler and skateboarding workshop.  

In English, we will be focusing on some adventures with Paddington. We will begin our topic with a hook day where we will make our own passport and boarding pass and hop onto a plane to Greece! Once in Greece, we will be completing activities to learn all about it. We will then research and write our own travel guide all about Greece. We will create and write post cards and write a fictional biography all about Paddington. We will then join Paddington in Paris, where the Olympics are being held this year, and write a story about his adventures. As well as this, we will write instructions about a new Olympic event.  

In Maths in year 3, we will focus on mass and capacity, fractions, money, time, shape, statistics and a revision of the four operations.

In Maths in year 4, we will focus on decimals, money, time, shape, statistics, position and direction and revision of the four operations.

In Science we will be learning all about the human body, including muscles, bones and teeth. We will also be looking at how sounds are made. We will develop our creative skills in Design and Technology by taking part in a Knex challenge.  We will also be exploring and cooking dishes from around the world.  In Art we will continue to develop and master our artistic skills and linking it to the Olympic Sculpture Park.   In Music we will learn about different genres of music including live and recorded performances and about different composers throughout the years.

During PSHE we will be learning about Living in the Wider World, British Values and how media, commerce and social issues shape our understanding of the world. In our Online Safety lessons we will learn about our Online Relationships and Reputation as well as our Self-Image and Identity. We will also be learning to read and write simple phases in French in our Modern Foreign Language lessons.

You will not need to bring your PE kits to school but you can wear your PE kits on our PE days. Some PE will be outside so please make sure you’ll be warm enough.

 Homework will be set at the start of the term on Seesaw. Children can upload their work to Seesaw at the end of the term or as they finish each task. If you would prefer a paper copy of the homework please contact the school to arrange this.  Children will received rewards for completed homework tasks.
