Year 3/4 - Miss J Woskett and Miss D Rickards

Welcome to Falcons class the teachers are Miss Woskett and Miss Rickards.  Miss Symonds also works in Falcons class.

We will start the Autumn term by spending two weeks focusing on our Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship skills. We will discuss the school rules and how they help keep us safe and happy.  We will learn that we need to take responsibly for our own behaviour and except the consequences if we behave badly.  We will also discuss how it feels to be angry and how we can learn to control this emotion.  We will use the book ‘King of the Sky‘ to look at our differences and how we can help each other.

Our topic for the rest of the Autumn term is ‘Stones and Bones’, during this topic we will focus on developing our historical skills and knowledge. We will learn about life in the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age.

We will begin this topic by experiencing an exciting hook day. Children will investigate how natural materials can be used to create art and music. We will also be learning a Stone Age song.

During the topic we will also visit the Dean Heritage Centre to learn more about the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age through their practical workshops.

In Science we learn about rocks and soils, we will investigate different types of rocks and how they are formed. We will use our computing skills to research a specific area of the Stone Age and we will use our Geography skills to locate and name places. We will also be using our creative and artistic skills to sketch and create detailed Cave Paintings.

During the Autumn term Falcons class will be going swimming every Monday. Our P.E day will be a Thursday. It is a good idea if children keep their P.E kits in school at all times as P.E lessons may change due to weather and school commitments.

Homework will be set at the start of the term. Children can hand in their completed homework projects at the end of the term or as they finish each task.  You can support us by listening to your child read regularly and helping them learn their times tables. Children will receive rewards for completed homework and if an adult signs their link book to let us know they have read at home.  Children can become ‘Maths Champions’ and receive a special pencil when they know all the times tables for their year group: Y3; x2, x10, x5, x3, x4 and x8, Y4; all x tables up to 12 x 12.

We are all looking forward to learning new and interesting things this term.
