Hello! Welcome to Ospreys class, I'm Miss Howard the class teacher. Mrs Rogers, Miss Frowen and Miss Powles also work in Ospreys class. We will be here to help you no matter what, all you have to do is ask.
We will begin the term by focusing on PSHE whilst we settle back into school life. We will be reading ‘Ruby’s Worry’ to teach us how to look after our mental health as well as learning how to take care of our physical health. Also, we will be reading ‘After the Fall – How Humpty Dumpty got back up again’ where we will develop our resilience and growth mindset.
Our topic for the rest of the Autumn term is ‘Traders and Raiders’. We will learn all about the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings and how they settled and changed Britain.
In art, we will design and paint Viking long ships as well as using clay to make Anglo-Saxon brooches. We will design our own Anglo-Saxon shields.
In music, we will learn Anglo-Saxon and Viking songs. We will begin to use instruments while we sing and start to sing in rounds.
In Computing, we will focus on developing our key skills such as touch typing and saving and opening documents. We will learn about the school network and how to stay safe online.
In science, we will be learning about light and dark and how we see things.
We will also be learning French this term!
In the Autumn term, our P.E day will be a Wednesday and Thursday. Children will need to come to school wearing their PE kit on these days (they will not change during the school day). Please make sure you wear appropriate clothing for PE such as joggers or shorts (weather dependent). Please bring a jumper so you don’t get cold – we will be outside for all our PE lessons until further notice.
Homework will be set at the start of the term. Children can hand in their completed homework projects at the end of the term or as they finish each task. You can support us by listening to your child read regularly and helping them learn their times tables and spellings.
Children will receive rewards for completed homework and if an adult signs their link book to let us know they have read at home.
Children can become ‘Maths Champions’ and receive a special pencil when they know all the times tables for their year group:
Y3 - x2, x10, x5, x3, x4 and x8,
Y4 - all x tables up to 12 x 12.
We are all looking forward to seeing you back at school ready to learn and have fun!
