Welcome to Ospreys! I'm Miss Howard the class teacher and I work with Miss Powles and Mrs Bowen.
Our main topic for this term is ‘Wonders of the World’ with the focus being on Geography. In Summer 1, we will be looking at the countries who are a part of the UK and identifying towns and cities like Cinderford, Gloucester and London. We will look more closely at London and learn about the human and physical features we can see there. We will be taking a trip to the local area to learn key map skills.
In Summer 2, we will be focusing on the European country of Spain. We will learn about the human and physical features there as well as the capital city. We will learn about the volcano that erupted in Spain and understand how they erupt. Then, we will be learning about the South American country of Brazil. We will learn about the major cities there and identify human and physical features too.
For our hook for this term, we will get a special letter from Paddington’s Aunt Lucy! We will prepare and eat some of Paddington’s delicious marmalade sandwiches.
For our hook in Summer 2, we will experience what it’s like to go on an aeroplane! Parts of the school will be made into a departure lounge, airport security and an actual aeroplane where we will experience on board refreshments.
We will then watch Miss Hobbs’ and Paddington’s travel blog of their recent trip to Madrid which will lead us into learning about Spain!
All of our English units for the summer term will feature Paddington Bear. We will start off by writing a letter from Paddington to Aunt Lucy and then write a story about Paddington’s trip to London to see the Queen’s jewels! We will also create a script and a travel blog of Paddington’s trip to Spain and create a postcard of his trip to Spain and Brazil! We will finish off by writing a fictional biography all about Paddington Bear.
On Friday 27th May, we will be celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee at school with a picnic on the field. In Eagles we will be focussing on the Queen’s reign from 1990 onwards!
In DT we will be learning about where food comes from and seasonality. We will prepare and make a delicious savoury dish!
In Art, we will design and create carnival head dresses!
In PSHE, we will learn about British Values and the importance and impact of the media.
This term Ospreys will be learning to play the violin as part of their music unit! We will be working very hard over the next 10 weeks so we can put on a performance for you to come and watch. More details will be sent out closer to the time.
In the summer term, our P.E day will be a Tuesday and Friday. Children will need to come to school wearing their PE kit on these days. Please make sure you wear appropriate clothing for PE such as joggers/shorts and a plain white or blue t-shirt/polo top (weather dependent).
Homework will be set on Seesaw this term. Children can complete all their homework on Seesaw and send it to me to be approved. You can support your child and us by listening to them read regularly and helping them learn their times tables and weekly spellings (new spellings are given out every Tuesday).
Children will receive rewards for completed homework and if an adult signs their reading record to let us know they have read at home. They will also receive a raffle ticket and be entered into our reading raffle competition where they can win a prize at the end of each term!
Children can become ‘Maths Champions’ and receive a special pencil when they know all the times tables for their year group:
Y3: x2, x10, x5, x3, x4 and x8,
Y4: all x tables up to 12 x 12.
We are all looking forward to learning new and interesting things this term.
