Ospreys

Welcome to Ospreys class! I'm Miss Howard and I am the class teacher. Mrs Rogers, Miss Powels and Miss Davis work in Ospreys class too.

Our topic for Spring term is ‘Grand Designs’. Our focus will be on treehouses and we will make one using a range of materials. We will begin the term with our hook day where the children will make a treehouse as part of the K’nex challenge.

In English, we will read the story ‘Magic Faraway Tree’ and then later in the term we will write instructions on how to make a torch using SAMLABS equipment.

In Maths, we will be learning about multiplication and division, fractions, time, angles and shapes.

In Science, we will be learning about electricity, forces and magnets. In term 1 we will be designing, making and creating our own mini treehouses. Then in term 2, we will design our own magnetic game that we would play in our treehouse. Alongside, we will write instructions on how to play our game.

In our Art lessons, we will be learning about a range of different influential artist. We will create a graffiti wall to go in our treehouse to make it look really cool!

In PSHE, we will be recapping what we learnt in Autumn, including behaviour, kindness and mental/physical health. In Growth Mindset, we will learn how the brain is a muscle, the power of YET and how making mistakes is important to us succeeding.

In the Spring term, our P.E days will be Monday and Thursday. Children will need to come to school wearing their PE kit on these days (they will not change during the school day). Please make sure you wear appropriate clothing for PE such as joggers and hoodies/jumpers. We will be outside for all PE lessons until further notice.

Homework will be set on Seesaw this term. If you or your child need support accessing Seesaw please come and see me. Children can complete all their homework on Seesaw and send it to me to be approved. Please do not have all your homework completed in the first week. You can support us and your child by listening to them read regularly and helping them learn their times tables and weekly spellings.

Children will receive rewards for completed homework and if an adult at home signs their link book to let us know they have read they will also get rewards and have their name put into our raffle ticket draw.

Children can become ‘Maths Champions’ and receive a special pencil when they know all the times tables for their year group:

Y3: x2, x10, x5, x3, x4 and x8

Y4: all x tables up to 12 x 12.

We are really looking forward to learning and creating new and interesting things this term.
