Year 5/6 - Mrs S. Smith and Mr R. Gallop
Our names are Mrs Smith and Mr Gallop and we are the class teachers of Harriers class. Mrs Smith teaches the class at the start of the week and Mr Gallop teaches Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Working alongside us throughout the week in class is Mrs Younger and Mrs Francis.
The autumn terms topic is ‘Walk through the ages’. We will begin with focussing upon the popular Charles Dickens Book ‘Oliver’. We will have a dressing up day for the children where they will get the chance to dress like Victorians. The topic is heavily focussed upon the Victorian era and using our history skills to investigate this time period. The class will get the chance to visit Tyntesfield house near Bristol to further their knowledge about Victorian life. We will be using our trip to help us to create time slip stories.
Our PE days are Wednesday and Friday so please ensure your child has a PE kit in school each week including shorts, t-shirt and daps. It is a good idea if children keep their P.E. kits in school at all times as P.E lessons may change due to weather and school commitments.
We will set a homework pack with activities to complete all of which link to the work we have been covering in class and the topic. However it is also essential that you hear your child read as much as possible as well as practising their times tables. It is essential that children know all of their times tables in Year 5 and 6 so please help them to practise at home. Children receive rewards for completed homework, for reading at home (if an adult has signed their link book) and also for mastering their times tables.
We have many exciting activities planned for the children throughout the term so please remember to join us at the end of the topic for autumn Showcase where we will be celebrating all our hard work.
We look forward to another exciting and fun filled term.
Mrs Smith and Mr Gallop.
