Forrest View

Welcome to Hawks class I'm Mr Merry and I am the class teacher. Miss Frowen and Miss Powles also work in Hawks class. We are all looking forward to welcoming you back to school and helping you as much as we can!

We will begin the term by focusing on PSHE whilst we settle back into school life. We will be reading ‘Ruby’s Worry’ to teach us how to look after our mental health as well as learning how to take care of our physical health. Also, we will be reading ‘After the Fall – How Humpty Dumpty got back up again’ where we will develop our resilience and growth mindset.

Our topic for the rest of the Autumn term is ‘Traders and Raiders’ where we will learning all about the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings discovering interesting things like how they settled in Britain and how they lived.

In art, we will be focusing on Anglo-Saxon styled art up until October half term by designing and making an Anglo-Saxon shield. Also, we will be using clay to make an Anglo-Saxon brooch. After half term we will be moving onto Viking themed art where we will be working towards creating a Viking long ship final piece.

In music, we will learn Anglo-Saxon and Viking songs. We will begin to use instruments while we sing and start to sing in rounds.

In Computing, we will focus on developing our key skills such as touch typing and saving and opening documents. We will learn about the school network, the internet and how to stay safe online.

In science, we will be learning about light and dark. We will be learning to understand how important and essential light is, where light comes from and the dangers that light sometimes possesses.

We will also be learning French this term!

In the Autumn term, our PE day will be a Monday and Friday. Children will be required to come into school wearing their PE kit on their PE days (Monday and Friday). All PE lessons will be outside until further notice so suitable clothing is essential, such as joggers and jumpers/hoodies when the weather turns colder.  We will be developing a range of PE and hockey skills and using these skills to improve our technique by executing our skills in game based approaches.

Homework will be set at the start of the term. Children can hand in their completed homework projects at the end of the term or as they finish each task.  A fantastic way you could support us is by listening to your child read regularly and helping them learn their times tables and spellings.

The children will receive rewards for completed homework and if an adult signs their link book to let us know they have read at home. Children can become ‘Maths Champions’ and receive a special pencil when they know all the times tables for their year group: Y3: x2, x10, x5, x3, x4 and x8, Y4: all x tables up to 12 x 12.

We are all looking forward to learning new and interesting things this term.
