Falcons

Welcome to Falcons class I'm Miss Bligh and I am the class teacher. Miss Roberts and Miss Gazzard also work in Falcons class.

We have two topics in the summer term, ‘Climate Change’ and ‘The Track to Tokyo’. For our hook day we will take part in an Olympic workshop.

In Summer 1, our topic is ‘Climate Change’. In English, we will complete a biography unit on David Attenborough and learn all about his life, including the work he does to help the environment. Also, we will focus on the advert ‘There’s a Rangtan in my room’ which shows the effects of the use of palm oil and the destruction to habitats. We will write a story from the orang-utans perspective.

In Science, we will focus on animals including the human body, skeletal and muscular system, digestive system and functions of teeth.

In Geography, we will be able to locate the continents and oceans of the world as well as focusing on the UK. We will identify the countries that make up the Great Britain and their cities. We will go into the local community to carry out some fieldwork about our local area.

In PSHE, we will focus on British values including rules and responsibilities, tolerance towards each other, safety and healthy lifestyles.

In Art, we will sketch British landmarks and create silhouette pictures to show endangered animals.

In Music, we will learn a song about what we can do to help the environment. We will compose our own lyrics and create a music video to highlight climate change alongside.

In Summer 2, our topic is ‘The Track to Tokyo’ where we will be focusing on the Olympic Games. In English, we will be writing persuasive texts to persuade people to get involved with different sports. As well as this, we will create a news report of the upcoming Olympic Games including different sports that will take place, who will be competing and any other exciting news to report!

In Science, we will focus on the different types of rocks, how they are formed, different soils and how fossils are formed.

Following on from our UK focus in Geography, we will learn all about Greece – the home of the Olympic Games and Tokyo – where the current games are being held.

In DT, we will learn about seasonal foods, understand that food comes from plants and animals and understand nutrition. Also, we will prepare and cook a savoury dish.

In PSHE, we will learn all about the media, know how adverts persuade you to do and feel different things and to understand that not everything you see in the media is true.

In the Summer term, our P.E day will be a Tuesday and Wednesday. Children will need to come to school wearing their PE kit on these days (they will not change during the school day). Please make sure you wear appropriate clothing for PE such as joggers or shorts (weather dependent). Please bring a jumper so you don’t get cold – we will be outside for all our PE lessons until further notice.

Homework will be set on Seesaw this term. The children will take part in Active Discovery. Children can complete all their homework on Seesaw and send it to me to be approved. Also, you can support us by listening to your child read regularly and helping them learn their times tables and spellings.

Children will receive rewards for completed homework and if an adult signs their link book to let us know they have read at home. They will also receive a raffle ticket and be entered into our reading raffle competition where they can win a prize!

Children can become ‘Maths Champions’ and receive a special pencil when they know all the times tables for their year group: Y3: x2, x10, x5, x3, x4 and x8, Y4: all x tables up to 12 x 12.

We are all looking forward to learning new and interesting things this term.
